You’re about to watch “Nightstick.”
It’s a commentary on police brutality that draws a parallel between a police officer’s baton and a composer’s wand.
The work, made with Kofi Dadzie, a Boston high school student, and MullenLowe U.S., was released in June 2019 through a program created to shine a spotlight on youth voices and social justice.
It’s from the album “A Message From Our Table” and written and performed by The Youth Poets of MassLeap.
Nightstick never truly saw the light of day beyond YouTube. But it beautifully puts into words the pain so many are feeling right now.
MullenLowe is highlighting, with the warning: “America, do not let there be another ‘encore’ to George Floyd.”
